Heisman Trophy Top-10
The 4-7 points scored in the Irish were that the second-most ever enabled by Notre Dame at a home match (Purdue score 51 points in 1960). In terms of the game’s Heisman implications, if there is a likely winner on the playing field that past Saturday that he was wearing Michigan’s famous maize and blue colors maybe not Notre Dame’s equally familiar blue and gold. My latest Heisman update follows.
Heisman Trophy Top-10
1)TROY SMITH (Ohio State) Last Week: 1). รับพนันบอล Coming off last week’s showdown win over Texas and with its own Big-10 opener against Penn State looming in a few days, it had been understandable if Ohio State came out just a little flat this past Saturday against Cincinnati. The flicker was provided this week by the Ohio State defense, as the Buckeyes sacked Cincinnati QB Dustin Grutza eight times, while holding the Bearcats into minus-four yards racing in 22 efforts. Trailing 7-6 from the late 2nd quarter, Troy Smith put the Buckeyes ahead with a 12-yard TDP into Ginn with only three minutes remaining in sunlight. He had been six-of-six on that 80-yard driveway and actually scampered for a TD that has been nullified by a penalty, prior to pitching his very first TDP of this match. He included a nine-yard TDP into Ginn in the next quarter and finished off the 37-7 win simply by going 21-of-30 for 203 yards with 2 TDPs and, no INTs. Smith has led Ohio State to 10 straight wins, completing 67.5 per cent of his throws to an average of 249.4 YPG with 20 TDPs and just two INTs. The 1 thing missing from Smith’s arsenal this season, is that the danger of him running. In leading Ohio St to a seven-game winning series to finish this past year, Smith averaged 50.7 YPG (4.9 YPC) and scored six TDs. This past year, he has negative yards rushing in three matches! But he’s demonstrably that the Heisman frontrunner at this time of this summer season!
2ADRIAN PETERSON (Oklahoma) a week ago: 3. Discuss a gutsy work! AP got little assistance from QB Paul Thompson, yet despite eight and nine-man fronts, he kept taking the penalty of this Oregon defense. Nearly singlehandedly, he brought Oklahoma back from shortages of 13-6 at the half and also 20-13 entering the fourth quarter, to put the Sooners up 33-20 with just a few minutes left. A fantastic Oregon comeback, buoyed with a number of highly-questionable calls, gave the Ducks the eventual win, 34-33. However, that mayn’t diminish Peterson’s effort, because he gained 145 yards rushing in the fourth quarter and finished with his fifth career 200-yard match (he has 20 career 100-yard matches), rushing for 211 yards on 33 carries. Peterson finished second in the Heisman voting as a freshman two years ago (highest finish ever by a professional) and three matches this year, has produced a very impressive resume. Oklahoma gets a breather this week because the Sooners sponsor Middle Tennessee State (still another 200-yard game?) . His season stats are: 90 carries 5 15 metres 5.7 YPC 4 TDs / 3 catches 75 yards 25.0 YPC inch TD.
Slaton scored on TD runs of 38 and 37 yards, since the Mountaineers opened a 28-0 first quarter lead on the Terrapins last Thursday night. Slaton did not score in West Virginia’s 45-24 win but’d 167 of their 195 yards (21 carries) by half time. The sophomore has been spectacular in West Va’s 3-0 start (Mountaineers have outscored their opponents 139-37), topping 100 metres in all three matches (had 203 in the opener). West Va joins Ohio State with 10 straight wins as both schools course TCU, which possesses the nation’s longest active winning streak in 1-3. Slaton played in among West Va’s first four games this past season but still ended with 1,128 YR and 19 TDs (17 racing). He has currently topped 100 yards in eight of the past 10 matches, with West Va winning each game in which he has topped the 100-yard mark. Even the Mountaineers begin a stretch of four road games over their next five Saturday, once they visit East Carolina. His season stats are: 62 conveys 503 metres 8.1 YPC 6 TDs / inch catch 1 2 yards 12.0 YPC 0 TDs.
4)MIKE HART (Michigan) a week ago: 6. Hart helped Michigan finish a Travels losing streak in road openers last year Saturday, since the Wolverines trounced Notre Dame at South Bend, 47-21. Henne and Manningham attached on three first-half TDPs (69,20 and 22 yards), as Michigan placed Notre Dame at a 34-7 hole right until the half. Hart may perhaps not have been the game’s star but he was clearly its workhorse, as he gained 124 yards on 3-1 tough carries, scoring once. It turned out to be a big game for Hart, considering the undeniable fact that in 3 previous games vs Michigan’s two largest opponents (ND and OSU), Hart had gained a total of just 97 yards on 35 carries (2.8 YPC). It marked his third straight 100-yard match this year, giving him 13 in his career (Michigan is 121!) . Michigan returns to the Big House that Saturday to handle Wisconsin, that has opened 3-0 in the post-Barry Alvarez era. His season stats are: 81 includes 386 metres 4.8 YPC 4 TDs / 3 grabs 1-3 yards 4.3 YPC 0 TDs.
Leak struggled in Urban Meyer’s offense last year because his departure yards dropped out of 3,197 as a sophomore to 2,639 as a junior plus his TD-to-INT ratio travelled from 29-12 to 20-6. However, all seems right this year, as evidenced by Florida’s 3-0 beginning after Leak led the Gators back from a 17-7 deficit at Knoxville on Saturday night to beat the Vols 21-20. Leak threw two second-half TDPs, the last of that gave Florida a 21-20 lead with 6:30 left. Leak does not have the running ability of prior Meyer QB Alex Smith (Utah) however also the addition of Florida freshman QB Tim Tebow (conducted seven times for 29 yards while switching four FDs from the Vols) may have solved that problem. Leak finished the match 15-of-25 for 199 yards with three TDPs and one INT. Florida is home this coming Saturday to handle Kentucky. His season stats are: 55-of-84 65.5 percentage 799 yards 10 TDPs 3 INTs.
I am not certain just how much the others are going to drop Brady but I’m not sure I have dropped him much enough myself! He was extremely ordinary from the opener against Ga Tech and entirely TERRIBLE this past Saturday compared to Michigan. The Brady we watched last year if he averaged 362.9 YPG death (four games of a lot better than 400 yards!) Over Notre Dame’s final nine regular season games (completed 64.9 percentage with 28 TDPs and only six INTs), have never been visible so much in 2006. Brady was unable to lead Notre Dame into a FD at the match’s first quarter and on ND’s very first driveway had a tipped pass intercepted and returned for a TD. The match’s scoring was restricted, whenever a Brady fumble was returned 54 yards for a TD in the fourth quarter. N d was down 34-7 and Brady was only 3-of-13 for 14 yards, even when he directed the Irish into a late first-half TD drive in he moved 7-of-7 for 71 yards. Too little too late? I believe so! The “not-so” Struggling Irish trip East Lansing that Saturday to battle Michigan State and a Spartan team that has defeated the Irish SEVEN of their last nine times they’ve met. Lose here and Brady’s Heisman opportunities are D-O-N-E!
USC has won a number of the previous 4 Heismans (barring the outcome of this Reggie Bush scandal!) , so it is only fair I include at least Trojan in my own top-10 (Booty will soon join the fray too!) . Jarrett captured a 12-yard TDP on the last play of the first quarter to give USC its original lead and also added another TD grab (a five-yarder) in the 3rd quarter, giving the Trojans a 21-3 lead. Jarrett finished the match having a career-tying most in 11 catches for 136 yards. It’s his 10th career 100-yard receiving match and the 10th time he’s captured at least two TDPs at a competition. He’s got 3-1 career TD catches a brand new USC album that leaves him just one shy of this pac10 record of 32, maintained by Stanford’s Ken Margerum. USC plays at Arizona this Saturday. His season stats are: 16 catches 171 yards 10.7 YPC two TDs ( two games).
Ginn caught two TD catches again last week totaled only 33 yards on five catches. I’m still waiting for him to explode however it hasn’t happened (he might make use of a match such as Michigan’s Manningham!) . In fact, he will not even lead his team in receptions, as Gonzalez has 17 to Ginn’s 14. Ginn may be part of a championship team this year but it’s far more likely he is playing WITH that the Heisman winner this year than being it!
9)KENNY IRONS (Auburn) the other day: 8. I recognize that becoming successful against the LSU defense is not an easy chore (the Tigers have held four straight opponents to less than 200 yards of offense while allowing a total of just 16 points) however Irons’ 25-carry 70-yard effort just doesn’ t cut it. It also seems to be bad when one believes he’d a 218-yard match (his career full!) Against LSU last year, at Baton Rogue. The week before, Irons saw his seven-game regular season series of 100-yard efforts ceased by Miss s t, whilst the Bulldogs held him to just 69 yards on 21 carries. More to the point, when Auburn got a enormous fracture near the finish of Saturday’s match by the officials, who chased a pass interference call on upside down to give Auburn the chunk, Irons couldn’t come through. Auburn gave Irons the ball three straight plays but he gained just 3 yards, allowing LSU yet another chance at the win. Actually LSU did not convert is irrelevant. Auburn hosts Buffalo that Saturday although I’d hope a huge game from Irons, it likely will not matter much in this particular questionnaire. His season stats are: 66 carries 322 yards 4.9 YPC 1 TD / 4 grabs 3-6 metres 9.0 YPC 0 TDs.
I had planned to use another player aside from Garrett within my own 10-hole this week although this guy is some player! He also scored the game’s first TD last Saturday against Buffalo to a 49-yard run and then introduced a 68-yard TD run and the very first play of the 4th quarter. In Northern Illinois’ 31-13 triumph, Garrett ran for 263 yards on 24 carries with those 2 TDs (lets watch how Irons compares this Saturday vs the Bulls?) . It marked his 17th career 100-yard game and his eighth of 200-yards or more. Don’t forget, in the group season-opened this calendar year, he ran for 171 yards against Ohio State (you also could have heard about them) Plus caught five passes for 114 yards (just one TD) compared to the Buckeyes as well! Northern Illinois hosts Indiana State this Saturday. His season stats are: 74 includes 630 metres 8.5 YPC 4 TDs / 5 catches 1-14 yards 22.8 YPC 1 TD.
